They protect the city from evil spirits and watch over it to maintain the balance between the visible and invisible worlds. The group brings this mission to life on stage through their music. Every note and every beat is designed to convey joy and cheerfulness. A collective energy, smooth and almost ritualistic, connects the audience and eases tensions.
French and Togolese musicians met in 2022 during the Togoville Jazz festival, developing an instant chemistry and giving rise to a debut album, EZO, where each member discovers themselves and shares their art. From this encounter emerged a modern, deeply rooted ritual: Vodou-Jazz.
Thus, French trumpeter Félicien Bouchot, a regular on the electric scene (Bigre!, Keystone Big Band, Very Big Experimental Toubifri Orchestra, Skokiaan Brass Band…), joined by Romain Baret (Essor et Chute, Collectif Princes Oreilles), unite their voices and energy with the new generation of the Togolese jazz scene : Joachim AMOUZOU on piano, Honoré DAFO on bass, Henoch FAFADJI on drums.
Their first album Ezo (2024) has been praised by critics.
“‘The album includes twelve tracks that strike the perfect balance between elegant, inventive jazz and the traditional rhythms and songs of Togo. As you can tell, we’re hooked.”
