Claudio Rabe is a musical project at the crossroads of heritage and modernity, blending the power of rock, the trance of traditional Malagasy music and Afro-psychedelic influences. This hybrid identity gives rise to a music that is both rooted in tradition and turned towards the future, where raw energy becomes a collective liberation. Anchored in roots, memory and traditions, it unfolds in a modern and electric universe. Each track and each concert invites to trance and emancipation, in an aesthetic of contrasts where guitars and machines dialogue with the tsapiky and grooves inspired by Fela Kuti.
The project began with a personal story: that of a musician grandfather whom the artist never saw play and of whom no recordings exist. Faced with this absence, he does not seek to reconstruct a specific piece of music, but rather to understand an era and a context. He draws inspiration from the musical wind that swept through Madagascar in the 1970s and 1980s, when the electrification of instruments transformed local dance music. Guitars, basses and keyboards contributed to the emergence of structuring styles (tsapiky, salegy, bassessa), emerging from a collective and danced context. The project is part of this open heritage, privileging group playing, organic grooves, mutual listening and shared voices.
