Based on the theme of the five agricultural seasons in Burkina Faso: drought, rain, seeds, storms and harvest, Sandji invites us to become witnesses of the past and the future in a dialogue between machines and ancestral drums. Much more than an extraordinary musical and visual work, Sandji calls for a global and urgent ecological awareness.
Adama Dramé is strongly supported by keyboardist-beatmaker Marc Chalosse, VJ Lara Bourrel, stage manager Julien Cuny, and sound designer Laurent Loiseau.
The djembe is projected into its future thanks to digital video and sound processing, in real time and in quadraphony. The music is illustrated by the VJ mixing Super 8 archives, images of today as well as live shots from cameras focused on the hands and face of the percussionist. They allow the expansion of his gesture, his expressions and his virtuosity. A parallel is created between the repetitiveness of electronic rhythms and the gestures of agricultural life, which are still often manual.
