Strongly surrounded by the keyboardist-beat maker Marc Challosse, Lara Bourrel and Julien Cuny from STUDIO PiL’Z and the sound designer Olivier Valcarcel.
Based on the theme of the 5 agrarian seasons in Burkina Faso: the drought, the rains, the seeds, the storms, the harvest, SANDJI invites us to become witnesses of the past and the future in a dialogue between machines and ancestral drums. Much more than an extraordinary musical and visual piece of work, Sandji call to minds about urgent global ecological awareness.
The djembe is being projected into its future thanks to a digital video and sound processing in real time. Illustrated by archive and contemporary images, a parallel is created between the repetitiveness of electronic rhythms and the gestures of agricultural life, which are still often manual.
